Permanent Supported Housing

The OASAS Permanent Supported Housing (PSH) Program provides rental subsidies, case management, and employment services for individuals and families in recovery who have experienced homelessness or have been at risk for homelessness. The purpose of the PSH program is to help participants obtain and maintain permanent housing, which in turn requires recovery from substance abuse and employment.

Qualifications:

This program targets individuals or families in recovery who began a course of treatment and/or recovery when they were homeless or at risk for homelessness. Individuals participating in this program must be able to live independently, be willing to participate in substance abuse treatment, and be motivated toward employment. Certain income guidelines apply to eligibility for a rent subsidy and are based on HUD standards.

Payment:

This Permanent Supported Housing Program is funded through the NYS Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services. There are no associated costs for participants of the program.

Participation:

Participants in this program live in independent housing. The Program Coordinator provides case management, which includes assessment and planning for all service needs, and helps the consumer pursue employment related goals.

Length of Stay:

Length of stay is determined on an individual basis. Although this varies, some people remain in this program for 12-18 months.

Program Expectations:

Participants are expected top meet regularly with the Program Coordinator, participate in service planning, and work on the goals and objectives that they establish. Participants are also expected to apply for alternative housing subsidy programs while in PSH.
